After its staggering start on Friday with a record opening the box-office, the Rajkumar Hirani directorial ‘ Sanju’ starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead continues its pace on the second day too. The Sanjay Dutt biopic collected Rs 38.25 crore nett on Saturday, according to the reports in the BoxofficeIndia.com.
Ever since the announcement of the film, ‘Sanju‘ has been the talk of the town. When the first looks, teaser, trailer and songs were released, everyone was stunned at Ranbir Kapoor’s startling resemblance with Sanjay Dutt. His efforts were appreciated by critics and fans alike. However, as far as producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra is concerned, he had someone else on his mind to play the role.
Vidhu reportedly had Ranveer Singh in his mind. The producer revealed that it was director Rajkumar Hirani’s idea to cast Ranbir and he was unhappy with the decision. He alleged that Ranveer could have been a better choice and a perfect fit for the role because of his flamboyant personality, emotional depth and his ability to adapt and change into Dutt. He added that Hirani was firm about Ranbir and it was only after they began shooting that he realised that the director was right in his decision. He concluded by saying that Ranbir has become Sanjay both in “swagger and soul.”

Meanwhile, while the film had a rather safe release in India, Great Britain’s Censor Board seems to have issues with the film. In the United Kingdom, the film has been rated ‘15’ which is to say, non-adults below the age of 15 are not allowed to see ‘Sanju’ in Great Britain.
