Shahid Kapoor whose last release ‘Padmaavat’ earned immense popularity is currently busy shooting for ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ alongside Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam. Recently there were reports of him being a part of the Hindi remake of the Telugu blockbuster ‘Arjun Reddy’. However, the actor kept it subtle whenever he was questioned about it. Speaking to a media portal Shahid revealed that he’s very excited to learn that the project might come to him and that once confirmed he will also make an official announcement about the same.
And looks like that the rumours have transformed into reality. The ‘Padmaavat’ actor took to his social media to share a picture with the team ‘Arjun Reddy’- producers Murad Khetani, Ashwin Varde and director Sandeep Vanga. He captioned the picture, “Team ARJUN REDDY is READY !! Here we go. Wish us luck guys. @imvangasandeep @MuradKhetani @ashwinvarde”
The news has come as a delight because the director of the film Sandeep Reddy Vanga had earlier confirmed Shahid’s involvement in ‘Arjun Reddy’. However, the actor revealed that it might happen but nothing is confirmed as of now.
When Shahid was told about the director’s quote, he quipped about the filmmaker’s choice being right. Director Sandeep Vanga revealed that remaking one’s own film is 10 times tougher. He also revealed to a daily that Shahid has apparently started prepping for the role. As per reports, he will be playing the role of a medical student with anger management issues.
Vanga also revealed that Shahid has, in fact, watched the original movie a couple of times before. The director-actor due had attended the screening of the film together in Mumbai to understand the nuances of the character better. They also had a discussion about the nitty-gritties of the film and the character that Shahid will be portraying.
However, the female lead for the film hasn’t been zeroed down to anyone yet. The makers are reportedly seeking a fresh face. As per recent reports, the official announcement will be made by the end of the next month.
Interestingly, the makers have paid a huge price to take over the remake rights. As per reports, a transaction of approximately Rs 7 crores was made to acquire the rights, unlike, the usual amount of maximum 2-5 crores. The reason for the same is believed to be the response of the audience on Vijay Deverakonda starrer ‘Arjun Reddy’.
A source told a daily that there were many filmmakers trying their luck for the film simultaneously. And that’s exactly why Ashwin Varde and Murad Khetani had to, therefore, agree on paying the huge amount worth Rs 7 crore to the producer for the Hindi version.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga who helmed the original will also be taking over the direction of the Hindi version. The movie is scheduled for the shoot in July.
